College Details

Kew Gardens, a World Heritage site, is synonymous with plants and gardens. For 250 years it has been world leader in scientific and horticultural study of the plant and fungal kingdoms. Our living plant collection is one of the most extensive in the world and our historic landscape enriched with iconic horticultural buildings such as the famous Palm House and contemporary Alpine House.

For 150 years, Kew has been formally training horticulturists in a working garden and paying a salary. The tradition continues to this day. Our training and education opportunities offer a passport to work in horticulture world wide. The Kew experience hones the graduate’s plant knowledge and cultivation skills making them highly sought after, future employees.

Entrants to botanical horticulture can join the Kew Internship Programme to gain work experience for three months. This is a volunteer placement and applicants have to support their own costs or obtain sponsorship.

Our paid, one year Kew Traineeship could be suitable for you if you’re looking to boost your practical experience or try out botanic horticulture for the first time.

The Kew Apprenticeship will suit those of you looking to commit to three years training in Kew Gardens. This course is aimed at the practical person, who wants to learn about plants and how to grow them, and is prepared to study for exams along the way.

The Kew Diploma is suited to dedicated, professional horticulturists, wishing to prepare themselves for managerial positions. This is the most thorough horticultural course provided by any botanic garden, and will take your plant experience to the highest level.
