  • Horticulture is where art, science, design and commerce meet – with challenging and rewarding careers no matter what your background or interests. (Credit: National Trust Picture Library – Paul Harris)
  • Parks and urban green spaces help cool temperatures, reduce wind speeds and absorb pollution and flood water.
  • Horticulture is creative, changes by the seasons and makes places interesting, vibrant and healthier.
  • A top-quality football pitch contains 150 – 200,000 leaf blades in every square metre. Every one of them needs skilled care and attention.
  • Nurturing a seed as it turns into a flower is watching a small miracle every day. Horticulture is full of magic and mystery.
  • 37 million people enjoy visiting and sitting under the 135,000 trees in London’s Royal Parks each year. All those trees need expert care and pruning.

College Details

Set in the picturesque surroundings of the Kent countryside, Hadlow College is one of the top three land-based colleges in the UK.

Horticultural students benefit from a wide range of resources, including over 1.3 hectare glasshouse complex for commercial nursery production, a fruit production unit, medicinal gardens and field production facilities.  We have a dedicated landscape training centre and Garden Design studio and, if it's inspiration that you're after, we also possess 10 acres of landscaped gardens which are home to two National Plant Collections.

Our lecturers all retain an interest in the industries they serve to ensure that are up-to-date with the latest practices and can pass this knowledge onto their students.  As a college we retain strong links with commercial nurseries, research institutes and the retail world and regularly consult them about our course content.  Majority of students also benefit from work experience placements to enable them to experience the day-to-day challenges which they'll face during their career.

Socially, the College has a very active Students' Association and Student Support Services Team.  Together they host a range of activities dependent on interest, although regular events include film nights, quiz nights, karaoke, discos and live music.  The Summer and Christmas Balls are always a highlight of the calendar.

As a college we encourage students to be active and east healthily.  Our on-site gym is home to a variety of cardio-vascular and weight training machines and the college restaurant serves a range of different options, some of which use ingredients grown on site.  Hadlow has on-site residential accommodation for students and was recently awarded an Outstanding grade by Ofsted Care Inspectors.
